As a creator capturing your viewers attention within the first 3 seconds of your video may be the deciding factor on whether your video goes viral or not. Oftentimes creators overlook this key component to filmmaking, and ask themselves why their content is not performing as they had hoped for. Obviously providing value within the main content of your video is extremely important, as if you don’t have a strong foundation the rest of your video will crumble into pieces. However your audience won’t even reach the 1 or 2 minute mark without a strong hook and this applies to both Long-Form videos and Short-Form. In order to hook your audience you must start with a scroll stopping statement or question, after you have gained their attention you then show proof of your concept idea by telling a story and finally share the content of your video. Another tip to combat the ever shrinking attention span of viewers is to end your video on a high note, don’t drag it on as it will kill your retention.
